Communication Expert Praises DPR's Initiative For Courage To Open Draft RKUHP

JAKARTA - The DPR's move to open a draft of the Draft Criminal Code (RKUHP) which was submitted by the Government in early July as a form of disclosure of information to the public deserves appreciation.

This also answers the doubts of a number of circles, especially students, who previously demanded that the RKHUP be opened as widely as possible to the public.

"I think the attitude of the DPR, which immediately opened the draft RKUHP as soon as it received it from the government, should be applauded. According to him, a mechanism like this shows that the DPR RI is indeed worthy of the title of Informative Public Agency, as was bestowed by the Central Information Commission (KIP) to the institution in October 2021.

"So, through the transparency of the RKHUP draft, the Indonesian House of Representatives under the leadership of Puan Maharani has at least shown the title of Informative Public Agency that has been received, not only on paper, but it is a reality," said Ari.

In the award for the Informative Public Agency that was handed over by the Vice President KH Ma'ruf Amin to the Secretary General of the DPR RI Indra Iskandar in October 2021, this legislative body won a score of 96.52.

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) is one of 337 public bodies (24.63 percent) that has entered the Informative qualification. Under these qualifications there are Towards Informative, Moderately Informative, Less Informative and Not Informative.

"So, further disclosures of public information must be carried out by the Indonesian House of Representatives to further legitimize the title of Informative Public Agency that has been accepted by the institution," said Ari.

“Some say that information is the oxygen of democracy. Therefore, the disclosure of information by the DPR RI as one of the pillars of democracy is the biggest oxygen supply for democracy in this country," said Ari.

To note, since being sworn in as Chair of the DPR on October 1, 2019, the Chairperson of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, is committed to making the institution a real 'people's house'.
