GARUT - The Garut Police Department distributed 700 pairs of shoes to students in a number of schools that were victims of flash floods in Garut Regency, West Java as a form of concern for students who lost their school supplies due to the flood.

"A total of 700 pairs of shoes, the sizes have been confirmed, for elementary, junior high, high school, especially for those affected by floods," said Garut Police Chief AKBP Wirdhanto Hadicaksono after symbolically giving shoes to students in Tarogong Kidul, Garut, Antara, Thursday, July 28. .

He said that the flash flood disaster hit 14 sub-districts quite large, including urban areas, causing dirty house furniture and school equipment to be lost in the flood currents.

Garut Police, he said, representing the shoe company distributed shoes for free so that students affected by the flood could return to school with their new shoes. "We provide assistance to those who are really affected," he said.

He said the areas targeted for the shoe donation were Garut Kota, Tarogong Kidul, Cikajang, Banyuresmi, and Banjarwangi sub-districts.

In the flood-affected area, he said, it was reported that there were students who had to borrow shoes when they wanted to go to school, for that the shoe donation could give them more enthusiasm to study.

The police chief added that apart from shoes, there was also assistance in the form of school supplies such as books and school uniforms that had been given previously.

"There are aids for uniforms, books, from the police, BNPB, the community, which are delivered directly, hopefully it can help," he said.

A junior high school student who received the shoe donation, Siti (15) said that her only shoe was carried away by the flood, so when she wanted to go to school she had to borrow it from a friend.

"The flood in my house is 2 meters (high) the shoes are carried away by the flood, thank God now I can help with shoes, I have my own shoes," he said.
