MUI Regrets LGBT Promotion At The CFW Event

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) regrets the behavior that leads to the promotion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) ideas and movements at the Citayam Fashion Week (CFW) event.

However, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, stated that the impact of the CFW phenomenon is not always negative.

Therefore he also could not directly blame the participants who are still young.

For this reason, from this CFW case, he asserted, self-criticism must also be bravely conveyed to parents so that each of them knows where their weak points are so far so that there are teenagers who behave negatively.

"Then use it as a basis for taking steps to improve in the future so that we can make them appear better and more positive for their lives and for this nation in the future," Abbas said, quoting Antara, Tuesday, July 26.

Abbas appealed to parents to evaluate themselves in how to control the negative behavior of adolescent CFW participants such as men dressing up like women and others.

"Because what they did is clearly related to what we did and we (the parents) did to them," said Abbas.

According to Abbas, maybe all this time, parents have been too busy with business and activities carried out individually and socially.

As a result, the education and character building of these youths may become less attention.

Further to the government, Abbas supports immediate action against practices that are not commendable and contrary to the teachings of the nation's religion and philosophy in the public sphere in such a way, as was the case during the CFW.

He added that if there were wrong and/or inappropriate actions taken by CFW participants, then as the older generation, including the government, of course, we must be willing to evaluate and bring order.

"If it's positive, of course we support it, but if it's negative, of course we have to stop and stop. We ask the government to in this case (behavior leading to LGBT promotion in CFW) must act decisively to prevent and prohibit it," said Abbas.
