This Morning, Mount Merapi Is Releasing 700 Meters Of Lava

JAKARTA - Mount Merapi on the border of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java released lava on Wednesday, November 11 morning, with a gliding distance of 700 meters towards Kali Senowo.

Head of the Center for Geological Disaster Research and Technology Development (BPPTKG) Hanik Humaida said the lava avalanche was recorded out of Mount Merapi at 3.58 WIB, 4.04 WIB, and 5.13 WIB, but visually it was only monitored once from Babadan Post during the observation period at 00 : 00-06: 00 WIB.

"The sound of avalanches was heard three times and was observed once from Babadan towards Kali Senowo, a distance of 700 meters," said Hanik in an official statement, reported by Antara.

In addition to lava avalanches, BPPTKG also recorded 13 earthquake avalanches on the mountain with an amplitude of 3-48 mm and a duration of 12-83 seconds, seven gusts of earthquake with an amplitude of 3-7 mm and a duration of 12-21 seconds, 79 multi-phase earthquakes with an amplitude of 2 -24 mm and a duration of 7-12 seconds, as well as six shallow volcanic earthquakes with an amplitude of 46-70 mm and a duration of 13-25 seconds.

Meanwhile, visual observations show that the crater smoke is observed to be white with moderate to thick intensity with a height of 50 meters above the crater peak.

The weather on the mountain was clear, cloudy and cloudy. The wind was blowing weakly to moderate to the west. Air temperature 15-20 degrees Celsius, air humidity 60-95 percent, and air pressure 569-689 mmHg.

The BPPTKG has raised the status of Mount Merapi to Level III or Alert. It is recommended that mining in the rivers that originate at Mount Merapi in KRB III is stopped.

BPPTKG asks tourism actors not to carry out tourism activities at KRB III, including climbing activities to the top of Mount Merapi.

Sleman Regency Government, Istinewa Yogyakarta Region; Magelang Regency, Boyolali Regency and Klaten Regency, Central Java were also asked to prepare everything related to disaster mitigation efforts due to the eruption of Mount Merapi which could occur at any time.
