Doctor Merry, Who Set Fire To His Workshop Causing One Family To Die, Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison

TANGERANG - The Tangerang District Court (PN) sentenced doctor Mery Anastasia to eight years in prison for the case of burning a house that caused the death of a family in Tangerang.

"That's right (Monday 25 July) he was sentenced to 8 years," said Public Relations of the Tangerang District Court, Arief Budi Cahyono via text message to VOI, Monday, July 25, evening.

Arief said that the trial Judge Yuliarti and its member judges, Ferdinan Markus and Ari Satyo ensnared Merry with Article 187 of the Criminal Code paragraph 1.

"Because of the arson that resulted in the death of another person," he said.

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) objected, so he filed an appeal against the decision. This is because Article 187 of the Criminal Code paragraph 1 stipulates that the perpetrator, who commits arson, can be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of life if the act endangers death or causes death. Meanwhile, the panel of judges only sentenced him to 8 years in prison.

"(Prosecutor-ed) filed an appeal," he concluded.

Previously, Doctor Merry was charged with Article 340 of the Criminal Code and demanded 12 years in prison in the case of burning a workshop that caused the death of one family.

The arson case occurred on Jalan Cemara Pasar Malabar, Cibodas District, Tangerang City in early August 2021. The incident killed three people with the initials ED (63), LI (54), and LE (35). LE is Merry's lover, while ED and LI are LE's parents.
