Komnas Calls The Impact Of Natural Resources And Agrarian Conflicts At Risk Of Violating Women's Rights

JAKARTA - Komnas Perempuan said that the impact of conflicts on natural resources, spatial planning and agrarian activities often resulted in violations of the basic rights of local residents, especially women.

"The conflict lasted for more than a decade and resulted in the violation of a number of basic rights of local residents, especially women," Andy said when contacted in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 25.

He said that during the last ten years, conflicts over natural resources, spatial planning and agrarian were the most common conflicts in Indonesia.

He said that Komnas Perempuan's Annual Record data from 2020 to 2021 stated that there were 10 complaints related to natural resource, spatial and agrarian conflicts.

This data adds to the long list of similar cases reported from 2003 to 2019, which is 49 cases that have not been resolved.

"The 49 cases that were reported during 2003-2019 have not been fully resolved," he said.

Therefore, his party encourages the involvement of women in handling natural resource, spatial and agrarian conflicts.

Andy added that conflicts over natural resources, spatial planning and agrarian are often related to violations of the rights of indigenous and rural women. "SDA, spatial and agrarian conflicts are often linked to violations of the rights of indigenous women and rural women," he said.

Therefore, his party recommended to the DPR RI to ratify the Bill on Indigenous Peoples as an initiative proposed by the DPR RI. "The Indigenous Peoples Bill, which is needed as an umbrella for the protection and recognition of indigenous peoples and their rights, has not yet been ratified," he said.
