Burning Ex-wife For Social Media Livestreaming Content, Chinese Man Named Tang Lu Sentenced To Death

JAKARTA - A man was executed by a court in Sichuan Province, China, Saturday, because he was found guilty of burning his ex-wife to death while doing a live broadcast or livestreaming on his social media account.

Prior to his death sentence, the man, Tang Lu, had been met with his family to fulfill his rights, according to an appeals court in Sichuan that received an execution order from China's Supreme People's Court, as reported by Antara.

Tang was sentenced to death in October 2021 for the crime of intentional murder of his ex-wife, Lamu, who was an influencer on Douyin or Chinese-style TikTok.

Tang and Lamu married in 2009. During their marriage they often got into fights and Tang attacked Lamu several times.

After being divorced in June 2020, Tang repeatedly asked for reconciliation, but Lamu refused, the court said.

On September 14, 2020, Tang visited Lamu's parents' house and poured gasoline while Lamu was livestreaming in the kitchen of the house and set it on fire.

Lamu's life could not be saved after undergoing treatment in hospital for half a month, according to local media reports.

The panel of judges considered Tang's actions to be so cruel that they deserved severe punishment.

Lamu who was born in 1990 has around 75,000 followers on Douyin. His death related to domestic violence has gone viral in China.

Victims usually share videos on Douyin's account about daily life in her hometown.
