JAKARTA - A truck driver loaded with instant noodles died on the spot after the truck he was driving fell into a 40 meter deep ravine on the Jonggol-Cianjur alternative route, West Java, Monday, November 9.

Kasatlantas Polres Cianjur, AKP Meilawaty said the single accident started when the truck with police number D 9843 AC, driven by Yayat Ruhiyat, a resident of Banten Province, drove at high speed from the direction of Cikalongkulon to Cianjur.

"Entering the location of the incident, precisely in Cipetir Village, Bobojong Village, Mande District, where the road conditions dropped sharply, making the driver unable to control the speed of the vehicle. So that the truck, which was suspected of having failed brakes, had hit the guardrail, and finally fell into a deep ravine 40 meters, "he said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 10.

The driver, who did not get out of the cabin, was caught in the wreck of the truck, making it difficult for officers to evacuate the victim.

After using a number of tools, the officers managed to remove the body of the victim who was thought to be lifeless.

The victim's body was immediately taken to Cianjur Hospital for post mortem. Until the evening before, his body was still stored in the morgue at Cianjur Hospital, waiting for the family to bring the body to be buried in his hometown in Banten Province.

"By evening, the queue of vehicles, which had stretched from both directions, was able to pass normally. We are still waiting for heavy equipment to evacuate the wreck from the bottom of the ravine," said Meilawaty.

Meanwhile, information was gathered from witnesses of road users who had seen the truck lost control and fell into a 40 meter deep ravine on the alternative route. Before falling into the ravine, the driver had sounded the horn repeatedly to avoid collisions with other vehicles in the same direction and from the opposite direction.

"The truck lost control when it entered the downhill road. Even before hitting the guardrail of the bridge, the truck had hit a cliff on the side of the road, but this did not stop the truck loaded with instant noodles," said Nia Kurnia (36), an eye witness of a motorcyclist.

Until finally the truck plunged freely into the ravine, after hitting the five meter long bridge guardrail. The driver's condition appeared to be seriously injured in the head because the truck's body hit a large rock at the bottom of the ravine.
