JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria responded that the former FPI leader, Rizieq Shihab, was declared parole today after being detained since December 2020.

Rizieq was jailed because he was proven to have committed a number of violations, one of which was violating the Health Quarantine for causing crowds during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We respect the court's decision," said Riza briefly at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, July 20.

It is known, this parole process after Rizieq obtained the right of remission and integration in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 7 of 2022.

The former leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) emphasized that the conditional release from the Criminal Investigation Police detention center today was not a gift from political parties and officials or authorities. According to him, he can be free because of the guarantee from his wife and family.

"High gratitude to my beloved wife, Syarifah Fadhlun Yahya, who she and my 7 daughters faithfully followed from the beginning of the examination to the trial to detention, as well as routine visits and then continued to give encouragement. And in the end the family also had to give support. guarantee for parole," Rizieq said in a press conference broadcast on YouTube IBTV.

Rizieq himself still has to report and follow the guidance of the Central Jakarta Penitentiary (Bapas) while undergoing the parole program before being released purely next year.

"So I deliberately underlined that my parole was not a gift from a political party, not a gift from an official, not a grant of power, no. But this is a legal process that will be explained by my lawyer," said Rizieq.

Rizieq Shihab revealed the reason for today's parole which was deliberately not announced to the public because he was worried that the process would be disrupted due to a violation.

Together with a number of parties who take care of the administration of parole, Rizieq said that his party agreed to keep Rizieq's release day a secret so that no violations were committed in every ongoing process.

Because if there is a violation during the process, continued Rizieq, today's parole will be canceled. So like it or not, Rizieq had to finish his prison term for one more year.

"If someone asks, why isn't it announced, because we have a procedure for the journey from minute to minute, second to second, a little wrong can be canceled. So we really take care of it in such a way that this parole has not done anything wrong, " said Rizieq.
