JAKARTA - The Coordinator of the Expert Team for the Task Force for Handling Mouth and Nail Diseases (PMK) Wiku Adisasmito said the government would soon issue a regulation regarding the provision of compensation to farmers whose livestock died due to FMD.

"This regulation will soon be issued this week. Then the amount of assistance is adjusted to the type of livestock, namely cattle, buffalo, goats, sheep, and pigs, with a maximum nominal of Rp. 10 million," said Wiku in a press conference attended online from Jakarta, Antara , Tuesday, July 19.

According to him, the government will issue detailed regulations regarding assistance for farmers whose livestock die or have to be slaughtered due to FMD. "The government will soon issue the decision," he said.

The FMD Handling Task Force stated that based on data on July 18, 2022, all provinces on the island of Java and some provinces on the island of Sumatra were categorized as being in the red zone of FMD transmission.

Lampung, West Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi are classified as yellow zones because FMD transmission covers less than 50 percent of districts/cities in the province.

Meanwhile, the provinces of Papua, East Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku are still in the green zone, a zone without cases of FMD transmission in livestock.

The government continues to try to suppress the transmission of FMD by carrying out biosecurity, inspection, vaccination, treatment, and conditional slaughter of livestock infected with FMD.
