Artists Reject Jakpro To Be Team Manager, Considered Commerciality Of Art Scope

JAKARTA - A number of artists have rejected the DKI Regional Owned Enterprise (BUMD), PT Jakpro, to be the manager of Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) Cikini, Central Jakarta.

Rejection because the management is considered by the artists as a form of commerciality in the TIM area, even though the original purpose was for art activities and a forum for artists to express their work.

"Jakpro's job is to build DKI Provincial Government buildings, how can he be able to hold art activities," said artist coordinator Tatan Daniel when met in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 19.

Tatan said Jakpro does not have an activity task based on local regulations to be able to carry out artistic activities, but Jakpro's main task is to build and maintain buildings.

Meanwhile, the task of caring for the existing regional arts is carried out by the artists through the local Culture Service.

According to him, the one who has the right to manage TIM is the DKI Jakarta Culture Service because its functional task is to carry out and develop artistic activities.

"So now in TIM there are 2 rulers, most of which are still owned by the DKI Jakarta Culture Service and partly owned by Jakpro who are still in the same area but both carry out artistic activities," he added.

He also said that the delegation of authority to manage TIM should be handed over to the DKI Culture Office, not to Jakpro because the company is more concerned with company profits than providing a place for artists to be creative.

Jakpro has also presented to the Jakarta Arts Council (DKJ) the plan to use Graha Bakti Budaya which will later be used for public events such as weddings to political party birthdays.

Based on Antara's report, the artists feel that this is burdensome for them because every time they want to hold art performances and performances, they have to try on their own to meet their needs for decoration equipment, consumption, costumes and others.

Coupled with the high rent that must be paid to Jakpro if you want to hold a performance or art performance that is still in the same area.

The artists hope that DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 16 of 2022 which states that Jakpro has the authority to manage TIM can be revoked or a new Governor Regulation will involve artists as one of the components to decide policies.
