Lawyer Gede Pasek Asks For Follow-Up Session To Be Attended Directly MSAT: Let The Indictment Be Tested

SURABAYA - The attorney for the defendant Moch Subkhi Azal Tsani (MSAT) alias Mas Bechi, I Gede Pasek Suardika, urged the Surabaya District Court (PN) for the trial of his two clients to be held offline. According to the schedule, the second trial of the student sexual abuse case at the Siddiqiyyah Islamic Boarding School, Ploso, Jombang Regency, will be held again on Monday, July 25.

Pasek said the reason for asking for a follow-up trial to be held offline was so that witnesses, victims and defendants could be presented directly in court.

"Whether the events that are alleged to be facts or events that are alleged to be fictitious can be tested, so the trial must be held offline, not online," said Pasek, Tuesday, July 19.

Pasek assessed that the trial process would be unclear if it was held online. This means that the trial is short. "What we regret is why it has to be online. Today it is still online. So why should the trial be moved from Jombang to Surabaya if the trial is online?," he said.

According to him, if the trial was conducted online, it should have been held at the Jombang District Court. Because the victim and defendant witnesses were not presented directly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"If it's online, it should still be in Jombang. If it's in Surabaya, please present it so that we both know the real justice," he said.

In response, the head of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) who is also the Head of the East Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kajati), Mia Amiati, said the online trial was conducted because the panel of judges found it difficult to coordinate with Mas Bechi.

"Online because the panel of judges had difficulty coordinating with the defendant," said Mia.
