One Resident Dies Under Collapsed House Building In Bogor

BOGOR - A resident of Kampung Salabenda Bot RT02/RW, Curug Village, West Bogor District, Bogor City, Manah (57), died under the foundation of a house that collapsed right above the kitchen of his house.

The Head of BPBD Bogor City, Theofilo Patrocinio Freitas said the incident was reported at 18.00 WIB. Officers immediately rushed to the location.

"We immediately launched after receiving the report. We have checked, there is only one victim and it looks like he is dead, but the evacuation has not yet been completed," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 15.

Theofilo said that the evacuation process was quite challenging because the ruins of the building were large enough that the bodies of the victims could not be removed.

According to ANTARA's observations at the location, a number of BPBD officers, assisted by the West Bogor Police, and local residents as of 20.15 WIB were still cleaning and trying to remove debris.

An eye witness who is also the victim's nephew, Yoyoh (51) said the incident happened so quickly at around 17.30 WIB that the victim might not have been able to save himself.

Yoyoh saw the victim's husband Hamid and a son Andriansyah (25) who still lived together, and his daughter who lived next door to their house crying outside.

There was Manah's scream from inside the kitchen. Apparently, his aunt was hit by Jujun's house building which was above him. The building overtook the kitchen and empty rooms in the Manah and Hamid couple's house.

The location of the disaster where the house was buried by the neighboring house is under a public road in the village of Salabenda Bot. Heavy rain at 17.00 WIB is suspected to have caused Jujun's house to collapse.

Up to two hours of this evacuation, the weather was still light rain accompanying the officers to evacuate.
