Mothers Become Drug Couriers, Police: Her Figure Does Not Raise Officers' Suspicion

JAKARTA - The West Jakarta Metro Police are investigating the possibility of a syndicate of shabu-shabu dealers from among housewives.

This was done by the police after investigators arrested three suspected shabu dealers from an international network consisting of Y (52), I (45) as a courier and N (46) as a dealer.

"There is a possibility that this is due to the network. It is possible that other parties are involved," said West Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Head AKBP Akmal at the West Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters, Thursday, July 14.

According to Akmal, the women were considered easy to be used as meth couriers because their movements did not arouse suspicion from the officers.

In addition, middle-aged women are vulnerable to economic problems, so they are easily offered a job as a meth courier with a fairly large fee.

Akmal gave an example of suspects I and Y who had been arrested.

"Economically they are weak, so they (distributors) take advantage of these economic weaknesses and are recruited with a fairly large lure," he said.

However, Akmal ensured that the women involved as dealers were not meth users.

The actions of these women were revealed when the police received information that a package of methamphetamine was to be sent from Malaysia.

The methamphetamine package weighing 9,544 grams or 9.54 kilograms (kg) has arrived in Pekanbaru and will be sent to Jakarta. Suspects I and Y were ordered by N to depart from Pekanbaru to deliver the methamphetamine package to Jakarta.

"They passed the land route using buses," said West Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Pasma Royce.

Arriving in Jakarta, to be precise at the hotel in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 6, the West Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Investigation Unit immediately arrested the two couriers.

The West Jakarta (Jakbar) Metro Police also immediately arrested N as a dealer.

The police are still hunting for A as the dealer who gave shabu to suspect N. The police are also still investigating the location of their shabu distribution in Jakarta.
