Bawaslu Sleman: The Practice Of Money Politics Is Considered Ordinary

SLEMAN - Head of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of Sleman Regency, Abdul Karim Mustofa, assessed that ordinary people think that the practice of money politics is an act that seems to be normal.

"The current practice of money politics seems to have been considered something commonplace or normal. In fact, this is very detrimental and dangerous if it is not immediately eradicated completely," said Abdul Karim Mustofa in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), Thursday, July 14.

According to him, like diseases, the practice of money politics, such as diabetes or cancer, is so chronic that the only way to deal with it is by amputation and surgery so that it can be eradicated from the roots.

Therefore, his party as the election supervisor is very intensive in socializing related to money politics.

"One way we are taking is by inviting the community to develop their area as an anti-money village or sub-district," he said.

The ulama, he said, also agreed that money politics was the same as riswah or bribery. Thus, the perpetrator and the recipient are both doing something illegal.

Karim said that his party is currently continuing to intensively conduct socialization and development of anti-money politicking (APU) villages or sub-districts.

With this effort, he hopes that public awareness and participation in eradicating money politics will increase.

Meanwhile, the Village Head of Candibinangun Sleman Sismantoro said that so far there are still many cases of money politics that occur during the election stage and the election has not reached the court.

"Although proving the practice of money politics is not easy, the people in Candibinangun, Kapanewon (Kecamatan) Pakem, hope that Bawaslu will be more careful and more assertive in carrying out supervision, especially ahead of voting days," he said.
