Puan Will Be Awarded An Honorary Doctorate At Pukyong National University, South Korea

JAKARTA - Pukyong National University or Pukyong National University (PKNU), South Korea, will confer the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, for her dedication to fighting for women's rights.

The invitation to award the Honoris Causa Doctorate title to Puan was delivered directly by the President of PKNU, Dr. Young-Soo Jang at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday 13 July. PKNU gave the award because Puan fought for gender equality a lot.

"The reason we confer an honorary title on Mrs. Chairperson is because of her contribution of thoughts, and also her achievement as the first woman speaker of the House Representatives, DPR RI," said Young-Soo Jang after meeting Puan.

Young-Soo Jang hopes that the awarding of the title to Puan will inspire women to be able to play more roles in politics.

"So, through Mrs. Puan's achievements and dedication, we hope that women both in Indonesia and Korea can be inspired," explained Young-Soo Jang.

Deputy Chairperson of Commission X DPR RI Agustina Wilujeng who accompanied Puan when she received Young-Soo Jang said that Puan would receive an Honoris Causa Doctorate in the field of political science.

"Later we will receive the letter, then it will be analyzed by the team and then we will reply to the letter to Pukyong National University," explained Agustina.

Meanwhile, Puan expressed her gratitude to PKNU for the award of an honorary degree given to her.

"I really appreciate and express my gratitude for the plan of Pukyong National University, South Korea, which intends to award me an Honoris Causa Doctoral degree," said Puan, Wednesday, July 13 in a written statement.

The first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives received an honorary Doctorate Honoris Causa from Bucheon University for her contribution in the field of women's empowerment and politics. Puan stated that fighting for women's rights has become her vision and mission in serving the people.

"So far, I am committed to continuing to fight for the rights of women so that they can take part and play a real role in politics," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

"Through politics, women can contribute to fighting for the rights of all Indonesian people, especially the rights of women and children," continued Puan.

Previously, the grandson of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia Bung Karno also received an Honoris Causa Doctorate in the field of Culture and National Development Policy from Diponegoro University, Semarang, in 2020. Puan hopes that the award given to him from Bucheon University will increase his enthusiasm in fighting for the welfare of the people. .

"Hopefully this plan to confer an Honoris Causa Doctorate academic degree will increase my enthusiasm to continue to serve the nation and country," he said.

Puan's dedication to politics is not only seen domestically. His ideas in international forums have been recognized and appreciated by important political figures from many countries.
