Survey: Public Satisfaction With The President Impacts Political Stability

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Political Indicators survey institute stated that increasing public satisfaction with President Joko Widodo's performance had an impact on political stability.

"If public satisfaction is above the psychological threshold, of course the general chairperson of a political party is still in the comfort zone when it comes to supporting the President's policies," said a political observer from the Indonesian Political Indicators survey, Kennedy Muslim, as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 12.

The results of the Political Indicators survey as of June 2022, he said, the level of public satisfaction with the President's performance was 67.5 percent, up 7.6 percent from the survey results in April.

At that time, satisfaction with Jokowi's performance was at 59.9 percent, while the current level of public dissatisfaction with the President was 30.2 percent.

Ken said dissatisfaction with the president's performance was still within normal limits. The satisfaction rate is very positive to maintain support for the government.

"Public satisfaction with the president's performance is very influential on the political constellation. If the president fails to maintain the trend above 65 percent or touches below 65 percent, of course the party will keep its distance from the government," said Ken.

According to the Political Indicator survey, Ken continued, public satisfaction rose because there were improvements in five aspects, namely the national economy, household economy, politics, security, law enforcement, and eradicating corruption. However, the survey also mentions that there are several things that the government must address.

"This is a positive trend, although there are still records of urgent problems, such as the stability of basic prices being the main problem, the price of cooking oil, although there is a decline, is still quite high," said Ken.

Ken reminded that economic issues are always a determinant of public satisfaction with the government's performance. Threats that the Government must anticipate are rising fuel prices and inflation.

Another aspect that cannot be ruled out, according to him, is law enforcement and eradicating corruption.

"Maintaining macroeconomic stability must be very concerned," he said.
