19 Kilograms Of Sacrificial Animals' Livers Unfit For Consumption Are Destroyed

JAKARTA - 19 kilograms of sacrificial beef liver unfit for consumption have been destroyed by the Central Jakarta Food, Maritime, and Agricultural Security Service (KPKP). Head of the Livestock Section (Kasi) of the Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-dept. Herawati explained that the beef liver contained worms (Faschiola hepatica) based on the examination of the sacrificial animals slaughtered on Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijriah, Sunday, July 10.

"The examination was carried out on 1,438 sacrificial animals from 87 locations for slaughtering sacrificial animals, consisting of 392 cows, 3 buffaloes, 916 goats, and 152 sheep," Herawati said quoting Antara, Monday, July 11.

Beef liver that has hardened and is not fit for consumption is destroyed by rejection or burial, while those still fit are still distributed to the recipient.

"If the heart can still be saved, we will save it, but if it has hardened and there are bumps, we will convey it to be rejected," he said.

The KPKP Sub-Department also ensured that there were no sacrificial animals that were not yet old enough, because the officers had carried out an ante-mortem examination before the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The Head of the Central Jakarta Food, Maritime, and Agricultural Security Sub-Department (KPKP) Penty Yunesi said there were 103 animal inspectors deployed to ensure the health of the sacrificial animals.

The joint officers consisted of ASN elements of the Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-dept., the DKI Jakarta Provincial KPKP Service, the Indonesian Veterinary Doctors Association (PDHI), and the IPB School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical.

"For the health of the victim before being slaughtered, officers will ensure that the animal is free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), of sufficient age, complete teeth, and no defects," said Penty.
