JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that there will be two roads around Tebet Eco Park, South Jakarta which will be designated as low emission zones (LEZ).
Currently, the DKI Provincial Government is still finalizing a plan to implement a low emission area in the Tebet Eco Park. When the Tebet Eco Park reopened, motorized vehicles were prohibited from crossing the two roads on the west and east sides of the park on weekends and holidays.
"In Tebet Eco Park, there are two roads designated as LEZ areas on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays, namely Jalan Tebet Timur Raya and Tebet Barat Raya," said Syafrin at DKI City Hall, Monday, July 11.
However, the ban on crossing is excluded from public transportation, motorized vehicles belonging to local residents, to non-motorized vehicles such as bicycles.
"The regulation is that private vehicles and motorized vehicles are prohibited on both roads, except for public transportation, then non-motorized transport, as well as vehicles for local residents identified with special stickers or signs," explained Syafrin.
However, Syafrin has not been able to confirm when the opening of the Tebet Eco Park with the application of low emission areas around it can be implemented.
"We have carried out a trial. Of course, when the Tebet Eco Park reopens, it will automatically take full effect on every Saturday-Sunday, it has been implemented," he said.
As is known, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan will turn the Tebet Eco Park area, Tebet, South Jakarta, into a low emission zone. This decision was made to fix the chaos of Tebet Eco Park, which has a lot of visitors.
So, what is meant by a low emission zone? A low emission zone (LEZ) is an area that can only be crossed by vehicles with low emission levels or even no emissions.
Determination of an area as a low emission zone aims to reduce gas emissions caused by motorized vehicles. In a sense, it is hoped that it will reduce air pollution and encourage changes in the use of vehicle modes.
So far, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has designated the Kota Tua area as a low emission zone. This zone applies to Jalan Pintu Besar Utara, Jalan Kalibesar Barat on the south side, Jalan Kunir on the south side, Jalan Kemukus, Jalan Ketumbar, and Jalan Lada.
Since February 8, 2021, the DKI Provincial Government has made traffic engineering that limits motorized vehicles that pass through the area with the aim of improving air quality in Kota Tua.
This low emission zone area is only allowed for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport, and vehicles with special labels operating within the area. Policy implementation is valid 24 hours.
