COVID-19 Update as of July 9: There are 2,705 New Cases

JAKARTA - The Task Force for Handling COVID-19 recorded positive cases in Indonesia increasing by 2,705 cases as of 12.00 WIB.

The total accumulation of positive cases is now 6,108,729 cases. Five provinces contributed the highest cases, namely DKI Jakarta with 1,476 cases, West Java with 485 cases, Banten with 324 cases, East Java with 156 cases, and Bali with 84 cases.

Active cases also rose by 728 cases, bringing the total active cases in Indonesia to 19,855 cases.

The number of deaths has also reached 156,785 cases, an increase of four cases from the previous day.

However, the number of patients recovering from COVID-19 also increased by 1,973 patients. Now, the total number of recovered patients has reached 5,932,089 patients.

As reported by Antara, Saturday, July 9, the Task Force said 55,044 specimens had been examined in all laboratories in Indonesia and 3,990 people were now declared COVID-19 suspects.

To keep COVID-19 cases under control, the Coordinator of the Expert Team and Government Spokesperson for Handling COVID-19 Prof. Wiku Adisasmito stated that the policy of implementing restrictions on community activities (PPKM) would still apply.

"PPKM is a reflection of Indonesia's preparedness if at any time an emergency occurs again", said Wiku.

In principle, PPKM is called not only an activity to limit community mobility, but also to maintain a controlled case condition to remain consistent.

PPKM uses leveling which has various settings, ranging from strict restrictions to easing community activities.

Under the direction of President Joko Widodo, the PPKM policy will continue to be carried out until COVID-19 can be fully controlled.

Wiku asked the public to continue to adhere to the precautionary principle to save many lives. This can be done by investing heavily in health and support systems that include cultivating clean and healthy behavior in every aspect of life.

"We ask the public to be able to carry out the mandate, remain vigilant, alert, and adaptive to various changes that will occur in the future", it said.
