JAKARTA - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin targets heart catheterization services to reach 207 districts and cities in all provinces in Indonesia by 2024.
Budi said that currently, heart catheterization services are only available in 28 out of 34 provinces in Indonesia. According to him, heart catheterization services are not yet available in the areas of Bangka Belitung, West Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua Provinces.
When opening a working meeting of the central management of the Indonesian Medical Education Institute Association (AIPKI) for the 2022-2025 period in Surabaya, last Thursday, Budi said, the number of cases of heart disease and blood vessels tends to increase from year to year.
He cited the results of 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) indicating that at least 4.2 million people suffer from cardiovascular disease in Indonesia and 2,784,064 of them suffer from heart disease.
Therefore, the government targets heart examination services to be aware of diseases, narrowing, blockages, or widening of blood vessels to reach all districts and cities.
"34 provinces and 207 regencies/cities (must) be able to carry out lab paint services (cateterization) and open heart surgery," Budi said as quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Health in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, July 8.
He also said that the provision of medical devices for heart catheterization must be accompanied by the fulfillment of the needs of specialist doctors.
"However, what is lacking is the specialist. AIPKI's friends can help fulfill their human resources," he said.
