JAKARTA - Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi met with Tunisian Defense Minister, Emad Memisy to discuss the completion of the draft defense cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey. The meeting between the Indonesian Ambassador and the Tunisian Defense Minister was held at the Tunisian Ministry of Defense office in the city of Tunis on Wednesday, July 6. "The meeting with the Tunisian Defense Minister was warm and full of intimacy. We discussed the finalization of the draft defense cooperation between Indonesia-Tunisia before it was signed by the ministers of the two countries," Ambassador Zuhairi said in a statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, July 7. "God willing, in the near future the cooperation will be agreed, and stay implemented," he said. Ambassador Zuhairi explained several things that were points of cooperation, including joint defense exercises, visits, military education, and scholarship awards. "In particular, we also offer scholarships for the Tunisian military to study in defense high schools (in Indonesia) in various military sciences, as well as start several points agreed to be followed up in activities that are getting closer to bilateral relations between Indonesia and Tunisia," he said. Ambassador Zuhairi Misrawi also emphasized that the defense cooperation between the two countries proves the closeness and friendship that has been built since the era of President Soekarno and Habib Bourgaiba. "The closeness and friendship of the two brothers, Soekarno and Habib Bourgaiba, can be a capital for diplomacy and bilateral relations in various fields, especially defense. I am optimistic that bilateral relations between the two countries will improve in the future," he said. Indonesia and Tunisia have been in diplomatic relations since 1960. Indonesia praised Tunisia as a successful example of the democratic transition in the Arab World.
