JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo asked the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali to make a roadmap for Indonesia's candidacy to host the 2032 Olympics.

"I ask that the roadmap for our nominations to host 2032 be really well prepared based on the predetermined timeline," said Jokowi after a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Wednesday, November 4.

The timeline for organizing the Olympics is regulated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Jokowi requested that the Olympic roadmap be available before the selection process.

"This determination of the host will be determined in 2024, and the selection process will start no later than 2023. This is what I think the roadmap needs to be prepared," said Jokowi.

Furthermore, Jokowi admitted to getting reports that the IOC was setting new norms for hosting simpler and more cost-effective Olympics. According to him, this new norm is important to learn and adapt.

"It seems that this new philosophy, the Olympics is no longer to show the splendor of luxury. But, to what extent can creativity and innovation be carried out in implementing new norms that are more cost-effective and simpler," he explained.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta also mentioned that Indonesia's proposal to host the 2032 Olympics was not to show courage.

"Hosting the Olympics is not something to be daring, but one way to improve the image and dignity of the nation," said Jokowi.

Therefore, Jokowi asked his staff to make the nomination of the host a momentum to improve preparations so that the lack of sports infrastructure from previous sports events, such as the 2018 Asian Games.

This improvement is expected to outperform other 2032 Olympic host candidates, such as Australia, Germany, Korea Unification, Qatar, China and India.

"We must make this candidacy a momentum to organize ourselves to improve various things that have been lacking, starting from the preparation of sports infrastructure, athletic achievements, increasing global visibility as a city organizer, and so on," Jokowi explained.
