JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said there were a number of important issues discussed at the Anti Corruption Working Group (ACWG). One of them is related to the article on the crime of money laundering (TPPU).

Firli said that all law enforcement officers should apply money laundering offenses against perpetrators of corruption. This is in order to provide maximum deterrent effect.

"Indeed, corruption cannot only be handled by taking action, punishing people. People don't give up on being punished, people just give up if they are charged with money laundering offences," said Firli, quoted in his written statement, Thursday, July 7.

The former Deputy for Enforcement of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that the provision of corporal punishment often does not deter the perpetrators of corruption. They often repeat their mistakes.

Thus, by imposing the criminal article on money laundering, it is hoped that they will not repeat their mistakes. "We invite all law enforcement officers so that every corruption crime is attached to ML," said Firli.

"People are not afraid of corporal punishment but afraid of being impoverished," he continued.

Not only Richard, the application of the ML article was also carried out against the inactive Banjarnegara Regent Budhi Sarwono. This was carried out by the anti-corruption commission after ensnaring him in allegations of corruption in the procurement of goods and services at the Banjarnegara Regency Government in 2019-2020 and receiving gratuities.
