Palangka Raya Mayor Issues Eid Circular Without Plastic Waste, Urges Committee To Wrap Sacrifice Using Bamboo Leaves, Pandan And Bananas

KALTENG - Palangka Raya Mayor Fairid Naparin asked the committee not to use plastic bags to wrap meat during the slaughter of sacrificial animals on Eid al-Adha 2022.

"At the time of slaughtering the qurban later, the committee should provide purun baskets, bamboo baskets, coconut leaves, pandan leaves, teak leaves and banana leaves as a substitute for plastic bags to pack the sacrificial meat," Fairid said in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan Province (Central Kalimantan). ), quoted from Antara, Tuesday 5 July.

The Sacrifice Implementation Committee is also advised to always maintain and control the cleanliness of the environment in the shelter and slaughter of sacrificial animals.

Communities who receive qurbani are also asked to be able to carry containers of qurbani meat independently with environmentally friendly materials such as using shopping bags.

This provision has also been stipulated by the Mayor of Palangka Raya, Fairid Naparin through Circular (SE) number 940/DLH/II.1/VI/2022 regarding the implementation of Eid al-Adha without plastic waste.

The provisions in the circular letter, continued Fairid, are also in accordance with the Circular of the Minister of Environment and Forestry (MENLHK) regarding the implementation of the No Plastic Waste Festival.

"This circular has been conveyed to the committee for the sacrifice of mosques, langgars, and prayer rooms in Palangka Raya. Hopefully it can be implemented and adhered to properly," he said.

By implementing the points listed in the circular, he said, the community also supports and plays a direct role in the waste reduction and handling program during the 2022 Eid al-Adha.

The youngest regional head in the province, nicknamed "Bumi Tambun Bungai, Bumi Pancasila," explained that the distribution and distribution of sacrificial meat using single-use plastic bags has the potential to increase the accumulation of plastic waste.

"This condition can have an impact on environmental pollution because of the nature of single-use plastic bags which are very difficult to decompose and are carcinogenic or substances that can cause cancer cell growth.
