Dishub Explains Reasons For Enforcement Of Traffic Engineering At The HI Roundabout: Vehicle Crossing Is A Source Of Congestion

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency revealed the reasons for traffic engineering in the HI Roundabout area, Central Jakarta, which will start this afternoon until tonight.

Pls. The Head of Traffic at the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Emanuel Kristanto, said that the crossing of vehicles at the HI Roundabout is considered a source of congestion.

One of the most congested points is the intersection between vehicles from Jalan MH Thamrin (north) to Jalan Jenderal Sudirman (south) and vehicles from Jalan Jenderal Sudirman (south) to Jalan Imam Bonjol (east).

"Indeed, there is one crucial point that we feel needs to be handled, that is the crossing at the HI Roundabout, especially between vehicles from north to south and vehicles from the south going east," said Emanuel when contacted, Monday, July 4th.

The congestion that occurred at the HI Roundabout, said Emanuel, occurred in line with the increase in community mobility during the PPKM Level 1 period, as well as the narrowing of roads due to the construction of the MRT line and the construction of the Transjakarta bus stop.

"Crossing has recently become more and more disturbing, related to the increasing number of community activities. Right now, most of the activities are in the office, all WFO has started, this automatically plays a role in improving traffic conditions," he said.

Therefore, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency and the Traffic Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya agreed to carry out traffic engineering to reduce congestion in the HI Roundabout area.

"So, in principle, traffic engineering at the HI Roundabout is one of the efforts to smoothen the flow of traffic at Jenderal Sudirman-Thamrin. We want to disentangle the crossing of vehicles on the roundabout," said Emanuel.

For information, traffic engineering in the HI Roundabout area is in the trial phase starting from 4 to 10 July 2022 from 16.00 WIB to 21.00 WIB.

Traffic from the south (Jalan Jenderal Sudirman) that will go east (Jalan Imam Bonjol) cannot immediately turn at the HI Roundabout and be diverted to Jalan MH Thamrin, then turn back at the Horse Statue Roundabout or in front of the Ministry of Transportation Building. Traffic from the east (Jalan Imam Bonjol) which will go west (Jalan Kebon Kacang Raya) and north (Jalan MH Thamrin) is diverted to turn left via Jalan Jendral Sudirman, then turn back at Landmark Kolong Sudirman-Jalan Galunggung-Kupingan BNI-Jalan General Sudirman-and so on.
