TANIMBAR - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia asked residents who have been working on land at the Abadi Masela LNG Project site to continue to receive compensation. This request was made even though the land used administratively is in a forest area.
Bahlil said that some people on the Tanimbar Islands had been farming in the area for generations. This condition, according to Bahlil, should not be ignored when a project worth almost Rp. 390 trillion began to be built.
"Even though the land used is forest land, they have been gardening for generations," said Bahlil during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project in the Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku, Thursday, July 16.
He stated that he would report the policy and ask for President Prabowo Subianto's direction. The government wants the public to receive a decent compensation for land that has been their source of livelihood.
"They are given compensation, not compensation, but profit compensation to be used as best as possible," he said.
Bahlil emphasized that investment is still important, but the benefits must be felt by residents around the project. He asked Inpex, SKK Migas, local governments, and related ministries to resolve land issues without neglecting the rights of the community.
The Abadi Masela LNG project began to be built after being held since 1998. The investment is estimated to reach 20.95 billion US dollars or almost Rp. 390 trillion.
The work includes the development of 11 wells and four follow-up wells as well as the construction of ports, docks, and production facilities.
The project is targeted to produce 9.5 million tons of LNG annually and about 35,000 barrels of condensate per day.
At least 60 percent of the gas will be directed for domestic needs. The supply will be used, among others, for the fertilizer industry, PLN, PGN, and other downstream activities.
Bahlil also asked security officials to maintain the project by maintaining communication with the community. According to Bahlil, development should not only pursue gas results, but ignore residents living around it.
"Don't take the results, we don't pay attention to the community," he said.
