Minister Of Health BGS: Cases Of COVID-19 In Jakarta 100 Percent Variants BA.5 And BA.5

JAKARTA - Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the COVID-19 variants BA.4 and BA.5 dominate in the country. In fact, almost all cases in Jakarta are dominated by these two variants based on the results of genome sequencing.

"Now in Indonesia BA.4 and BA.5 have more than 80 percent of the variants that we sequenced genome. In fact, for DKI Jakarta it is 100 percent of the variants BA.4 and BA.5," said Budi at a press conference held live on YouTube, Monday, July 4th.

With this condition, Budi said the peak of COVID-19 cases caused by this variant should have been reached. Moreover, the BA.4 and BA.5 variants usually peak within 30-40 days from the time they were discovered.

"So we may still have a week or two ahead," he said.

"If we compare it with other countries, the peak should have been reached," continued Budi.

Furthermore, Budi agrees that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has increased recently. But, on the other hand, the decline in positive cases is now starting to occur in Jakarta and Indonesia as a whole.

"Usually if we look at other countries and also in Indonesia at the previous peaks of cases. When the delta dominance was almost 100 percent of the virus population, it started to decline," said the former Deputy Minister of SOEs.

"Similarly, when the omicron is almost 100 percent of our genome sequencing of the omicron variant, a decline begins," he concluded.
