Not Yet Receiving Victim Bahar Smith's Peace Letter, Police Continue The Legal Process

JAKARTA - The West Java (West Java) Regional Police (Polda) confirmed that they have not received or received a letter of proof of peace between the victim and Bahar Smith in the case of persecution that occurred in 2018.

"That there has been a persecution at his residence (Bahar) in Bogor, so the point is that the peace letter for the revocation is not there," said Head of Public Relations of the West Java Regional Police, Kombes Pol Erdi A. Chaniago, in Bandung, as reported by Antara, Monday, November 2.

Thus, he ensured that the case of Bahar Smith's persecution would continue the legal process at the West Java Regional Police General Criminal Investigation Directorate.

"Investigators are still processing, this is general punishment, assault, beatings, so it is also clear that there are victims, there are perpetrators, there are witnesses," he also said.

So far, he said that his party was still in the process of applying for a permit to the Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to be able to conduct an examination of Bahar. Because at this time the figure of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) is still under guidance at Gunung Sindur Prison as a convict for the previous case of mistreatment of two teenagers in Bogor.

"The person concerned wants to be investigated, because he is currently serving his sentence at Mount Sindur Bogor," he said again.

Bahar Smith's attorney, Azis Yanuar, said that the case had been completed several months ago, with a letter of revocation of reports from victims of persecution, an online taxi driver with the initials A.

"We have a document that explains that the reporting letter has been revoked by the reporter Andriansyah, it was June 8, 2020," said Azis.
