JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will extinguish the lights on office buildings belonging to the DKI Provincial Government, highways, and Jakarta icons on Saturday, July 2 2022 for one hour.
The blackout is an implementation of the DKI Jakarta Governor's Instruction Number 14 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Blackouts in the Framework of Energy Saving Actions and Reducing Carbon Emissions.
"The governor's instructions mandate that the blackout of lights be carried out for 60 minutes from 20.30-21.30," said Jakarta Environmental Service Public Relations Officer Yogi Ikhwan to reporters, Thursday, June 30.
"The lights were turned off in all office buildings except for hospitals, health centers, clinics. The blackouts were also carried out on protocol and arterial roads in 5 city areas, and symbols of the city of Jakarta," Yogi continued.
Yogi said, after the lights were turned off, there would be a calculation of the amount of energy savings, economic savings, and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
Yogi also appealed to the public to participate in turning off their respective house lights for 1 hour at the same time. This is intended to include energy saving activities.
"Let's be directly involved in this activity by turning off the lights in 1 hour, taking care of the earth by saving energy while contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. One hour is very valuable for the earth and our environment to be better," he said.
Previously, the lights were extinguished in government offices, roads, and Jakarta icons on March 26, 2022. These lights were extinguished 3 times a year, namely on the commemoration of environmental action, the commemoration of Earth Day, and the commemoration of the World Environment Day.
