Allegedly Using Drugs, Jember Immigration Officer Disabled

SURABAYA - An individual from the immigration office of Jember Regency, East Java, has been temporarily disabled. This is because the employee with the initials B is suspected of abusing drugs.

"We have issued a temporary dismissal letter for the person who has become a suspect and appointed a replacement", said Head of the Immigration Division of the East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Hendro Tri Prasetyo, in Surabaya, Thursday, June 30.

Hendro emphasized that his party will not tolerate violations committed by employees if they are proven guilty. Both honorary, civil servants, and even officials will still be subject to strict sanctions, especially those who abuse narcotics.

Currently, he said, his party was still investigating the case. Several Jember Immigration officials and employees are currently being investigated by the Immigration Division and the East Java Administration Division. "Our position is clear, we will not tolerate narcotics abusers", he said.

Hendro said that the Regional Office of the East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights fully handed over the legal process to the authorities and was ready to work together if investigators needed it. It did not stop there, Hendro emphasized that his party was ready to propose sanctions in the form of dismissal if the person was found guilty by the judge.

"We still adhere to the presumption of innocence, so the proposal for dismissal will only be proposed when there is a judge's decision", he said.

Hendro apologized for the actions of the Jember Immigration Office employees. According to him, his party never condoned any form of deviation. And said that what happened at Kanim Jember was the act of an irresponsible employee.

"With all humility, we apologize profusely for this incident. In the future, we will intensify early detection and tighten employee supervision, so that similar incidents do not happen again", he said.
