JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman reported allegations of corruption in garlic imports that occurred in 2020-2021 to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

This report was submitted by e-mail to the Directorate of Public Complaints of the KPK.

"We conveyed the allegations of corruption in a series of 2020-2021 garlic import activities," said Boyamin as quoted from the letter on Thursday, June 30.

In the report, Boyamin attached a number of evidences. Including anyone who plays in the import of garlic as well as witnesses.

"The alleged loss in this case is around Rp900 billion," he said.

When contacted, Boyamin said that the mode used by related parties was to deposit a fee per kilogram of garlic.

"It is suspected that the method is by withdrawing and/or depositing a fee per kilo by government agencies and/or private parties," he said.

Meanwhile, the KPK confirmed that it had received a report from Boyamin. Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, also appreciated the report.

"Regarding the report, the information we have obtained has been received by the public complaints section of the KPK. We appreciate the parties who continue to play a persistent role in efforts to eradicate corruption," said Ali when confirmed.

Furthermore, this report will be followed up by conducting verification and review.

"Verification and review are important so that it is known whether the complaint is in accordance with the provisions of the applicable law and is included in the realm of corruption and that is under the authority of the KPK," he concluded.
