JAKARTA - The Business Director of the Regional PLN for Java, Madura and Bali, Haryanto, said that the blackout in parts of eastern Jakarta and Bekasi this afternoon was due to equipment damage.

Haryanto said that currently his party is investigating the cause of the damage to the equipment in the 500 KV extra high voltage overhead line (SUTET) substation in Muara Tawar.

"We are still investigating the main cause of the broken equipment in Muara Tawar which resulted in a power failure at 12.58 WIB today," Haryanto said in a virtual press conference, Sunday, November 1.

Haryanto explained the chronology of the power failure this afternoon. The disturbance started with the damage to the load breaker at the 150 Kv Muara Tawar substation at 12.58 WIB.

With this disruption, the electricity supply from central West Java, namely Citaram, to parts of Jakarta was cut off.

Then, the route after Muara Tawar, which was experiencing interference, carried out self-isolation so that all systems would not shut down. That way, there are 42 substations undergoing deepening with a load of 2000 megawatts in parts of eastern Jakarta and the Bekasi area.

"After it was announced that there was a disturbance in Muara Tawar, then we declared that the network was in a safe condition, then a recovery process was carried out for the closest load that could be supplied from other places," he said.

PLN started to restore electricity supply from the closest locations, namely Muara Karang and Depok at around 13.22 WIB. Then, at 14.12 WIB, all the substations were given electric voltage.

"Until finally, at 15.29 WIB, all customers affected by the blackout have turned back on. I make sure everything is back to normal and that there are no rotating blackouts," he said.
