JAYAWIJAYA - The Jayawijaya Regency Government, Papua Province, is planning to create a safe zone in the school entrance area, either by installing road signs or markings and pedestrian crossings.
Head of the Jayawijaya Transportation Service, Pardomuan Harahap, said that previously, safety zones had been created in two locations but now they have disappeared.
"The safety zone was lost during road repairs, but later we will try again to install markers and signs," he said in Wamena, Jayawijaya, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, June 29.
According to him, pilot safety zones were created at SD Yapis and SMP 1 Wamena.
"We will try again if the roads in the experimental elementary school have been completely repaired, then we will install markings and signs," he added.
He said that a Jayawijaya Regional Regulation (Perda) is currently being prepared on safety signs so that when construction is carried out, do not ignore the signs that have been installed.
"Thus, the placement of signs has a legal basis. We can evaluate the accident-prone points there which we will install later, people will not move the signs arbitrarily. Even if they are moved, they must be returned to their original position," he said.
He also appealed to the public not to damage the signs installed at a number of fork and crossroads because the signs help road users to avoid accidents.
