BPBD Reminds South Solok Residents To Beware Of Floods Until The Land Moves

SUMBAR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Solok Regency appealed to local residents to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters. Solok has recently been hit by rain and strong winds.

"Saturday (June 25) afternoon, a house in Ampalu, Pauh Duo sub-district was hit by a tree that collapsed due to strong winds. There were no casualties in the incident," said Head of BPBD for South Solok Regency, Novi Hendrik in Padang Aro, West Sumatra. (West Sumatra), quoted from Antara, Sunday, June 26.

The officers, he said, had cleared the tree material that fell on the house belonging to Abul or Ema (50) and the government had provided assistance, ranging from basic necessities, zinc for repairing the damaged roof of the house, as well as cash from Baznas.

South Solok, he said, is not only prone to floods and landslides, but also prone to falling trees from trees in front of the house's yard.

"There are also residents who build houses on land that were previously fields or plantations that have been planted with trees," he added.

Novi said that seven sub-districts in South Solok have the potential for flooding because large and small rivers flow, which suddenly overflow during heavy rains.

Movable land, he continued, has become a threat in a number of areas in South Solok because the area has hilly areas that have become residential areas.

In an effort to minimize the impact of the disaster, he said the central government had formed a disaster-resilient village in the district bordering Kerinci Jambi. "There are already 6 nagari, and this year we will add another one in the Pauh Duo area," he said.

He encouraged the nagari government whose regions had been confirmed as disaster-resilient villages to reactivate their community resources so that they could reduce disaster risk. "We want when there is a disaster they are there," he said.
