The Padang Brucke Bridge Appreciates The Cooperation Between The Padang-German City Government

PADANG - Germany built a bridge in Hildeshiem City and named it Padang Brucke as a form of appreciation for the cooperation between the twin cities of Padang and Hildeshiem City which has existed for 34 years.

"As a form of and appreciation for the cooperation between the sister cities of Padang City and Hildesheim City, the local government built a steel construction bridge named Padang Brucke in Hildesheim City," said Padang Mayor Hendri Septa, quoted by Antara, Saturday, June 25.

The inauguration of the Padang Brucke bridge was attended by Hendri, Head of the Padang City Transportation Service Yudi Indra Sani, Head of Padang City Manpower and Industry Service Dian Fakhri, and Head of the Padang City Government Cooperation Section Erwin in Hildeshiem, which is about 30 kilometers from Hanover, Germany. .

On that occasion, Hendri thanked the City Government of Hildesheim for building the bridge and giving the name Padang Brucke.

"The construction of this bridge is a gift and a form of harmony from the cooperation between the City Government of Padang and the City of Hildesheim which has existed for 34 years," he added.

He hopes that the cooperation between the City of Padang and the City of Hildesheim can continue to be good and bring benefits to both cities.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Hildesheim Ingo Meyer said the city of Padang was the most distant partner in terms of geographical distance. The bridge construction was carried out with sister city cooperation partners, totaling eight cities from eight countries, including Indonesia.

"Hopefully the bridge can become a symbol of connectivity and a form of harmonious relationship between the Padang City Government and Hildesheim City," said Ingo.

In addition, Erwin explained that the construction of the Padang Brucke bridge could not be separated from the efforts and cooperation of the Padang City Government and Hildesheim City.

"Cooperation is carried out in the education sector by conducting student exchanges, joint research, scholarship programs - which are mostly followed up by Bung Hatta University - as well as collaboration with HAWK University," said Erwin.

Furthermore, since the end of 2020, the Padang City Government has received experts from Germany in the environmental field for handling slum waste.

In addition to the environmental sector, the sister city cooperation also includes cooperation in the management of the Batang Arau River waste, the preparation of a master plan for the Aie Cold waste landfill, as well as the development of drinking water treatment technology for the Padang City Water Company.

"Hildesheim also helped the city of Padang when it was hit by a devastating earthquake in 2009," he added.

In addition to attending the inauguration of the bridge in Germany, Hendri Septa and a number of Padang City Government officials held a meeting with Hildesheim City Government officials to discuss cooperation materials in the fields of cultural heritage, the labor sector, and transportation management.

"In addition, a visit to the waste and waste processing sites in the City of Hildesheim and the City of Braunsweig was also carried out, a visit to the Hildesheim Fire Department, and to HAWK University Hildesheim," said Erwin.
