KUDUS - Kudus Central Java Police reminded truck drivers not to be tempted to take drugs, let alone to become part of the network of drug dealers.

Kaur Bin Ops (KBO) Satresnarkoba Polres Kudus Iptu Arwan said heavy vehicle drivers who frequently travel out of town and away from their families must be vigilant because they can become sales targets or even become dealers.

Given the potential for vulnerability, the Kudus Police has socialized the dangers of drug abuse by targeting intercity truck drivers in Kretek City.

The outreach was held by visiting drivers at the truck parking base on Jalan Kudus-Pati in Klaling Village, Jekulo District, Kudus Regency, Central Java, by providing education and providing brochures about the dangers of drugs.

"With the socialization of the dangers of drugs, it is hoped that truck drivers will not be tempted to try them because apart from endangering their health, they can also deal with legal cases with the threat of four to 12 years in prison," said Iptu Arwan on the sidelines of the socialization, quoted from Antara, Friday, June 24.

This, he added, could be seen from the 16 cases of drug abuse that were revealed during January-May 2022 as many as six of the 17 suspects of whom were truck drivers.

Of the dozens of suspects, one of them is a shabu dealer, three are methamphetamine dealers, six are suspected drug dealers, and seven are users. Meanwhile, the evidence secured in the form of 43.11 grams of crystal methamphetamine, three pills of Inek, and 2,000 items of dangerous drugs.

Hendri Mulyono, a truck driver, said he was grateful to the Kudus Police because with the socialization about the dangers of drugs, he and his fellow drivers would be more alert so that they would not be easily influenced by taking drugs.
