Often Entering Mosques Thinking They Want To Worship, Men With The Initials TB Are Even Targeting The Congregation's Cellphones

JAKARTA - A man with the initials TB (27) in Lebak Regency, Banten was caught by a congregation while stealing a cellphone inside the Nurul Abrar Mosque, on Jalan Mangga Dua Dalam, No. 17, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta.

Kapolsek Sawah Besar AKP Patar Mula Bona said the arrests began when the management saw the CCTV monitor inside the mosque. In the box screen measuring no more than 14 inches, a man can be seen trying to take a cellphone belonging to one of the worshipers who was sleeping in the mosque.

"At the time of the incident, the victim with the initials M, the owner of the cellphone, was sleeping. The first incident (the theft) occurred on Saturday, June 18 afternoon. Then the perpetrator returned to the same mosque on Wednesday, June 22," said AKP Bona when confirmed by VOI, Thursday, June 23.

But who would have thought that the second arrival of the perpetrators would be a bad day for TB. When he took the action for the second time, the mosque administrator and his colleagues immediately arrested him.

"Stealing the property of the victim (congregation of the mosque) who was sleeping," he said.

The Sawah Besar Police Criminal Investigation Unit was immediately contacted for further legal proceedings.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for the Sawah Besar Police, AKP Wildan, explained that from TB's admission, the money from the stolen cellphone was used for daily needs.

"The money is for daily needs," said AKP Wildan.

In the action, continued Wildan, the perpetrator deliberately targeted mosque worshipers who were unaware of their valuables.

"He lives every day in a different mosque, constantly moving. The perpetrator has never been convicted (a recidivist). From his confession, he is not married," he said.
