Demo In The Horse Statue Area Conducive To This Afternoon

JAKARTA - A number of students are still holding a demonstration in the area of the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue, Central Jakarta, this afternoon. There were four groups of students who gathered to voice their respective speeches.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Heru Novianto monitored the action at around 16.00 WIB. In his observation, Heru said that currently the demonstration, which is estimated to have reached 100 people, is still running well.

"Alhamdulilah, the masses are still conducive. Until now, they can still be invited to communicate with us. Hopefully, students who inspire their voices will still comply with the rules," Heru said at the location, Wednesday, October 28.

Because of that the police are still deploying the Community Control apparatus (dalmas). In guarding them, these officers did not use shields and other equipment in dealing with demonstrators.

"We have indeed deployed Dalmas from the start to secure their action. The initial mass protap did not use shields and equipment because the speeches called for by the masses were allowed at every demonstration," Heru said.

In today's action, a number of these students brought a command car to give speeches. Beside the car, a number of students unfurled banners reading "sorry for the improvement of democracy".

"There are still many democracy fighters who voiced their rejection of the Omnibus Law," exclaimed an orator in the command car.

A number of masses from the Islamic Student Association (HMI) also gathered in the area of the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue, Central Jakarta, to voice their rejection of the Job Creation Law.

In the middle of the road, next to the roundabout of the fountain in the Horse Statue area, the HMI crowd started burning tires as a sign of protest to the government. Black smoke was billowing in the air.

There were a number of masses from the Federation of Indonesian Various Sector Workers Unions who joined in the action near the ESDM Ministry building.

Not only that, other protesters were at the end of Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. Students who are members of the Islamic Student Association (HIMA PERSIS) HIMA have called for a number of demands from President Joko Widodo.

"This is not only about the Omnibus Law, but also about changes in the system, which originally had changed democracy. It is right now that we present an ultimatum to the failure of the Jokowi-Amin government," exclaimed the orator.

Like the previous demonstration, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan was closed since morning. Police officers installed road dividers along with barbed wire on both roads.

In securing this action, 20 thousand joint personnel were deployed. They are scattered in three points, namely the State Palace area, the Proclamation Monument and the DPR / MPR Building.
