Homecoming In 2022 Is Indeed A Euphoria After The Pandemic, But The Number Of Passengers Is Still Lower Than In 2019

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) revealed that the number of public transport passengers during the 2022 Eid homecoming decreased by 22.6 percent compared to 2019 or before the pandemic.

"The number of public transport passengers during Lebaran 2022 will increase from 2020 and 2021, but will decrease compared to 2019 or before the pandemic," said Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi at a Working Meeting with Commission V DPR RI in Jakarta, Monday. The total number of public transport passengers during the Eid period in 2019 was recorded at 16.84 million people. Meanwhile, in 2022, there will be 13.04 million people.

The comparison of the number of passenger traffic in the road transportation sector has decreased by 34 percent, with the number of passengers in 2019 as many as 4.4 million people to as many as 2.9 million people in 2022.

Then in the ferry transportation sector, it decreased by 9.5 percent, with the number of passengers in 2019 as many as 4.1 million people to 3.7 million people in 2022.

The air transportation sector fell by 25.6 percent, with the number of passengers in 2019 as many as 4.2 million people to as many as 3.1 million people in 2022.

The sea transportation sector fell by 1.97 percent, with the number of passengers in 2019 as many as 1.21 million people to 1.19 million people in 2022.

Furthermore, in the rail transportation sector, it decreased by 28.3 percent, with the number of passengers in 2019 as many as 2.82 million people to as many as 2.06 million people in 2022.

"There are certain days where the number of passengers is higher than in 2019. We carry out many operations, at terminals, main toll gates, ports, airports, daop and so on. We manage all this optimally," he said.

The Minister of Transportation added that in general the implementation of the 2022 Eid transportation went smoothly, but still needed evaluation and improvement efforts.

These improvement efforts include; the need for additional rest areas, socializing alternative non-toll roads, adding bus transportation facilities, making special docks for transporting goods, studying the Jakarta-Semarang route regularly using ships, adding train facilities, to optimizing aircraft operations.

"What we did yesterday, hopefully this can be seen what we can improve," he concluded.
