East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said he was proud that East Java could contribute to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This is because the official 2022 World Cup ball, named "Al Rihla", is a production of Madiun Regency through PT Global Way Indonesia (GWI).
Adidas entrusted the manufacture of the official World Cup ball to the factory located on Jl. Raya Pilangkenceng, Kec. Pilangkenceng, Madiun Regency.
"Hopefully in the next World Cup, not only football, but the Indonesian national team can also compete. Amen, rabbal alamin," said Khofifah, when releasing the export of 50,000 world cup balls to five countries, Friday, June 17.
The five export destinations for the ball are the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Britain, the United States and Brazil. The five countries have recognized the quality of their football in the world.
"We are all happy and proud that from Bumi Kampung Pesilat, Madiun Regency, we have produced world cup quality balls and are ready to be released for export," he said.
Khofifah hopes that this achievement can be a lever for economic growth throughout East Java, as well as a reference and gravity for other industrial sectors. Especially at this time East Java is intensively spurring economic revival, which had contracted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Thank you because I was given the opportunity to witness that from this fighter village, Madiun district, through Global Way Indonesia has been entrusted by Adidas to prepare the ball for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This is an extraordinary opportunity. Hopefully we can be part of the lever economic growth in Madiun and East Java," he said.
In addition to the economic sector, Khofifah said that what was achieved by Madiun Regency could be a reference for Madiun residents, even the whole of Indonesia, to be more enthusiastic about improving sports achievements. If in the 2022 World Cup the official ball is produced in Indonesia, then at the next world cup momentum, the Indonesian national team can also compete.
"I think this can be a common reference, that we will continue to work better followed by stronger prayers," he said.
Meanwhile, General Manager of Long Way Group, Jeftha Wardojo, said that PT. GWI produces a wide range of sports accessories including balls.
Jeffha said that today PT. GWI prepared as many as 50,000 balls to be sent to the United States, Germany, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Brazil.
