JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation emphasized that the use of livestock vessels prioritizes animal welfare as an effort to achieve food self-sufficiency in beef and buffalo.

This cattle ship is in line with the enactment of Presidential Regulation Number 70 of 2017 concerning the Implementation of Public Service Obligations for the Transportation of Goods from and to Disadvantaged, Remote, Outermost, and Border Areas.

Six cattle ships are served by KM Camara Nusantara (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) with specifications for the overall length of the ship (LOA) ±69.78 m, width ±13.6 m and a loading capacity of 150 tons. Cattle transport ships can transport livestock with a capacity of 550 cattle.

In 2015, initially there was only 1 route for cattle ships with 4 loading ports and 4 unloading ports with a realized cargo of 353 tails.

Furthermore, in 2016 the realization of livestock cargo increased significantly to 8403 heads and decreased slightly in 2017 to 7990 heads.

"In 2018 the cattle ship routes increased to 6 routes with 10 loading ports and 7 unloading ports. The realization of cargo also increased sharply to 34,134 tails. In 2019, the realization of cargo increased to 42,726 tails and in 2020 42,984 tails.
