TANGERANG - The Balaraja Police have arrested a gang of thieves with the modus operandi of blocking an automated teller machine (ATM) that was operating at Bank Mandiri Jalan Raya Kresek, Sukamulya, Tangerang Regency. One of the three perpetrators was arrested after successfully draining customer accounts on Wednesday, June 15.

"The perpetrators of violent theft have been arrested using the ATM block mode. The perpetrators with the initials AG (32), male, private employees, residents of South Oku, South Sumatra, and two people are still being developed and being pursued by the team. In one group they have their respective roles when carrying out the action," said Iwan, in a written statement, Thursday, June 16.

Iwan explained, the perpetrator used a small plastic bag so that the customer's card was swallowed by the ATM machine. Furthermore, Iwan said, the perpetrator then directed the victim to try to enter the ATM password but to no avail. After the victim left, he continued, the perpetrator took the victim's ATM card that was swallowed by opening the ATM machine.

The victim's initials SM (32) said that at that time there were three people who tried to help him, but it turned out that they were the perpetrators.

"It is true that I experienced theft with an ATM block mode, to be precise at Bank Mandiri Jalan Raya Kresek, Kampung Kebon Kalapa, Parahu Village, Sukamulya District, Tangerang Regency, and I suffered a loss of Rp. 3 million." said SM.

As a result of their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code, concerning theft with a weight with a sentence of more than five years in prison.
