Gus Nur's Case, Police Check 3 Witnesses And 2 Experts

JAKARTA - Bareskrim Polri has examined three witnesses in the alleged case of hate speech with the suspect Sugi Nur Rahardja alias Gus Nur. There were also 2 experts who were consulted.

"So the examination is related to witnesses 3 (people), suspect 1 and expert witnesses 2," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono to reporters, Monday, October 26.

Two experts consulted regarding the Gus Nur case are linguists and criminals. Both were asked for their views on the hate speech allegedly committed by Gus Nur.

"Expert witnesses 2, and language witnesses and criminal law witnesses," said Awi.

Gus Nur is currently detained after being named a suspect in the hate speech case. Gus Nur was arrested at his residence in Pakis District, Malang, East Java on October 24.

In this case, Gus Nur was reported by the Chairman of the Cirebon Branch of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Management Azis Hakim to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The report numbered LP / B / 0596 / X / 2020 / Bareskrim dated 21 October 2020.

The reporting was because Gus Nur was thought to be spreading information that caused hatred or enmity regarding Nahdlatul Ulama through a statement he uploaded on the MUNJIAT Channel's Youtube account on October 16, 2020.

In reporting, Gus Nur allegedly violated Article 27 paragraph (3) and Article 28 paragraph (2) of Law Number (UU) 19/2016 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE).
