JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPR's Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency, Fadli Zon, said that the DPR raised four main issues of parliament's role in overcoming global problems in the G20 or P20 State Parliament Chairperson Forum.

The member of the Gerindra faction of the DPR conveyed this when he opened the online "P20 Preliminary Discussion: Towards the 8th Meeting of the G20 State Parliament Chairs Forum" online, Wednesday 15 June.

"We raised four issues in the P20 as a form of parliament's contribution to a safer and more prosperous world," he said.

In more detail, Fadli explained the four issues raised by the DPR in the P20 forum. The first is sustainable development and a green economy.

Furthermore, second, an inclusive economy and a strong economy to face the latest challenges, namely the food, energy and stagnation crisis.

Then, third, according to him, an effective parliament and dynamic democracy. And lastly, fourthly, gender equality, and women's empowerment.

"We need to be ready to face food and hunger crises, because these are related to climate change, rising unemployment, inequality, and environmental crises," he said.

He said, since Indonesia was elected as chairman of the G20 on October 31, 2021, based on the Antara report, the challenge faced was whether Indonesia was able to optimize its position for a better world in the midst of the post-Covid-19 recovery condition and the Russia-Ukraine war crisis.

According to him, various crises in the world cannot be overcome if global security is not conducive because the Russo-Ukrainian war has an impact on increasing commodity prices, the threat of a food crisis, stock markets are shaken, economic growth slows, and job opportunities are limited.

"Therefore, the G20 must adapt quickly and precisely and need accommodative breakthroughs in responding to global challenges," he added.

He assessed that all elements of the Indonesian nation such as the government, parliament, mass media, the business world, and the public should have a deep awareness of Indonesia's leadership in the G20.

Therefore, he considered, the G20 is a valuable momentum for Indonesia as a great nation because it has modalities such as the fourth largest population, growing democracy, third largest democratic participation, and leadership in ASEAN.

"Indonesia's leadership in the G20 not only shows our global capacity but is a noble reflection of the country's constitution, namely participating in implementing world order based on freedom, eternal peace, and social justice," he said.

He said that the DPR is the government's main tandem in leadership in the G20, and the DPR's BKSAP is the "motor" in parliamentary diplomacy so as to establish coordination and collaboration with stakeholders in the success of the G20.

Present in the discussion were the deputy heads of BSKAP, namely Mardani Ali Sera and Putu Supadma Rudana, members of BKSAP, Syahrul Aidi, Krisdayanti, and Hugua.

The discussion presented speakers, namely the professor of FEB at Padjadjaran University, Prof. Arief Anshoru Yusuf, and senior researcher in the field of international political economy at Airlangga University, I Gede Wahyu Wicaksana.
