Keep Muhadjir's Promise: Indonesia Free From Extreme Poverty In 2024

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, emphasized the government's commitment to eliminating extreme poverty by 2024.

"The government is committed to eradicating extreme poverty six years ahead of the SDGs target in 2030 to 2024, this is by President Joko Widodo's direction", said Muhadjir in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 14.

This was conveyed at the Launch of Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2022 concerning the Acceleration of the Elimination of Extreme Poverty at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

He said the government is targeting to eliminate extreme poverty from four percent to zero percent by 2024.

In this regard, Muhadjir invites all related parties to work hard in realizing the realization of the target of eliminating extreme poverty.

"We are all aware that eradicating extreme poverty is a very formidable challenge, for that program integration and synergy, as well as inter-ministerial/institutional cooperation, is expected to be able to multiply the power to realize these targets", he said as quoted by Antara.

To achieve the expected target, he said, the government will focus on several key activities, such as social assistance and subsidies, namely programs or activities to reduce the burden of spending on the extreme poor.

In addition, community empowerment increases the income of the extremely poor and the development of basic service infrastructure to reduce the number of pockets of poverty.

"Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2022 concerning the Acceleration of the Elimination of Extreme Poverty, which was stipulated on June 8, 2022, mandates 22 ministries, six institutions, and local governments to take the necessary steps according to their respective duties, functions, and authorities", he said.

In taking these steps, he said, it must be ensured that the targeting and integration of inter-ministerial/institutional programs must be ensured by involving community participation with a focus on priority locations for eliminating extreme poverty.

With the issuance of the Presidential Instruction, he asked all parties to jointly ensure that every program or activity, both at the central and regional levels, is well converged and synchronized.
