SULBAR - A number of experts will conduct research on an active fault that has triggered an earthquake in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, recently.

Observers of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Geophysics Station Palu Cholid said BMKG Geophysics Palu will directly investigate the active fault.

"The BMKG Geophysics Palu was ordered by the Central BMKG to go directly to check and conduct a survey," said Cholid when met in Palu, quoted from Antara, Monday, June 13.

Cholid said the BMKG team at the Palu Geophysics Station had conducted a direct survey and took data in Mamuju.

"We have collected the data, it's just a matter of processing it," he said.

Surveys and research on active faults in the Mamuju Sea were carried out by the central BMKG together with the BMKG Geophysics stations in Palu and Gowa, as well as the Makassar Climatology and Meteorology Center for Geophysics Region IV.

"The BMKG Geophysics Palu went down to conduct macrozonation and microzonation surveys. The data has been taken, it's just a matter of processing," he explained.

According to Cholid, the active fault that triggered the earthquake in Mamuju is difficult to detect, such as the Palu Koro fault whose length has been measured.

"Faults under the sea are difficult to measure in length. These faults are rather difficult to detect," said Cholid.

In addition to conducting the survey, the BMKG conducted research based on the history of earthquakes that occurred in the area.

"Earthquakes are usually repeated, so we have to look at the history. The results of our survey will be broadcast by the BMKG team for the public to know," said Cholid.
