JAKARTA - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil thanked a number of parties, including President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin after burying his son, Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz, who died as a result of being swept away by the current of the Aare river in Bern, Switzerland.

"As my family, I thank you, especially first to Mr. President Jokowi who has helped, Mr. Vice President, cabinet ministers, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who through the Indonesian Embassy in Switzerland were very extraordinary in the process of finding Eril," said Ridwan after burying Eril in Cimaung, Bandung Regency, West Java, Monday, June 13.

Emil, Ridwan Kamil's nickname, said he hoped his son's departure could be a lesson for everyone. "That it turns out that millions of prayers come from the deeds of worship that we sow while we are in the world. Eril must be very happy and has calmed down," he said.

Not only that, Emil said that he and his family had made it clear that their eldest son was gone. He is also grateful that Eril can be buried properly and is prayed for by many parties.

Before closing his statement, Emil apologized if he had made the public uncomfortable because of the traffic jams caused by the hearse traveling convoy. While holding back tears, he also asked for time to adapt.

"I thank you. There will come a time when I can speak better, longer, wider. But this time, allow us to adapt to the sad situation we are in," he said.

As previously reported, Eril's body was taken to the cemetery in Cimaung, Bandung Regency, West Java from the Pakuan Building at around 09.00 WIB. Along the way, the convoy of hearses was welcomed by the public.

Eril died after being swept away by the current of the Aare river while swimming with his sister and a friend who lived in Switzerland.

The body of Ridwan Kamil's eldest son was found by an elementary school teacher named Geraldine Beldi at the Engehalde Dam after a two-week search.
