JAKARTA - Business players who take advantage of the digital market in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic have wider marketing opportunities. Through the Indonesian Marine Market, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) encourages MSMEs in the marine and fisheries sector to jump in and take advantage of this digital market access.

Artati Widiarti, Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products (PDSPKP), said that business actors must take advantage of the digital market so that marketing and network access will expand and their products are increasingly known to the public.

"In the current COVID-19 pandemic, digital marketing has become a powerful and effective selling pattern that will ultimately maintain and even increase the sales of MSME products," he said, in a written statement received by VOI, Saturday, October 24.

To help MSME entrepreneurs in the marine and fisheries sector, KPP has also conducted a Memorandum of Understanding (NK) between the Directorate General of PDSPKP and digital marketing platforms such as Tanihub, Aruna, Gojek and Grab. Later, this digital platform will help MSMEs adapt to the digital market ecosystem.

Artati said, Aruna has also selected and curated MSMEs that are members of the Indonesian Marine Market. Of the 26 MSMEs that fall into the criteria, only 9 UMKM will be explored for the next collaboration process.

"Several other digital marketing platforms, such as Gojek, will conduct training on 28-29 October 2020, while Grab and Bukalapak will arrange schedules for further training," he said.

Meanwhile, other platforms such as Shopee and Bukalapak, although they have not collaborated with the Directorate General of PDSPKP. However, Artati said, they have the same commitment to support marine and fisheries MSMEs that are members of the Indonesian Marine Market.

Artati said this commitment was demonstrated by a virtual training held by Shopee for 84 MSMEs that are members of the Indonesian Marine Market on October 16-19, 2020.

Furthermore, he explained, MSME players were provided with materials including how to open a shop, shop settings, account settings, product settings, free shipping registration, product photo settings, shipping arrangements, product price settings and payment (account) arrangements.

After the training, the Shopee team will provide assistance to MSMEs, including monitoring the obstacles faced in the onboard process and while selling at Shopee. For MSMEs who are interested in getting additional training, Shopee provides advanced classes or Shopee tutoring which are regular in nature and will be adjusted to the location of the city.

Artati hopes that the cooperation and support of digital marketing platforms will continue to be carried out for MSMEs in the marine and fisheries sector. So that the target of 500 products from superior MSMEs in the Indonesian Marine Market can be realized.

Meanwhile, the Marketing Director of the Directorate General of PDSPKP Machmud said that 345 leading MSMEs had been netted from 1,355 MSMEs who were members of the Indonesian Marine Market. Furthermore, their marketing will be facilitated through several online marketing platforms.

In the onboarding process, they will carry out the procedures and mechanisms applicable to each platform, including product types, product standards (certificates), area coverage, administrative requirements, technical requirements, classification, curation and others.

"Of course this shows our readiness towards the climax of the Indonesian Marine Market event as part of the National Proud Indonesian Movement (BBI) in early November 2020," Machmud said.

For your information, the Indonesian Marine Market was launched by the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries on August 19. Through this program, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries will provide intensive guidance and facilitate marine and fisheries MSMEs in increasing access to marketing of their products, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
