Chili Prices Rise, PSI Asks Jakarta Residents To Plant Their Own

JAKARTA - The price of chili in a number of areas is soaring. A member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the PSI faction, William Aditya Sarana, advised residents to grow their own chilies.

"Residents at the RT level can be encouraged to plant chilies because growing chilies is not difficult," William said in a short message received in Jakarta, Friday, June 10.

William said that this method is commonly referred to as urban farming or urban agriculture. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government can facilitate residents to use vacant land owned by the government to plant chilies.

"Map the vacant land assets of the Provincial Government which have not been neatly planted," he said.

However, urban farming is a long-term solution and must be done massively. Meanwhile, in the short-term solution, William asked the DKI Provincial Government and food enterprises to increase the stock of chili in the market.

"The short-term solution is to increase the supply of chili from areas outside Jakarta, where the supply of chili is still sufficient," he said.

For information, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that there was an increase in domestic fertilizer prices. This condition has an impact on the increase in production costs that must be borne by farmers, including the price of chili.

"The increase in fertilizer prices can push up general food prices in line with restrictions on food and fertilizer exports in 10 countries.
